Our landscaping business comprises an extensive and specialized team and we herewith offer a complete and comprehensive package of services. We have our own fixed masons, builders and electricians employed and you can join us for a lot more than the standard garden work. Permaculture

To further expand our sustainability agenda, Tuinreconstructie van de Griend holds a number of certificates, including the extraordinary certificate ‘Permaculture Design Course’. Thanks to this specialist knowledge we can arrange your garden in a practical and environmentally responsible manner with several layers of green and edible plants. An extensive kitchen garden with vegetables or fruit, but also to the construction of an advanced irrigation system and clever ways to reuse natural compost belong to this system. You are not the only one to reap the benefits of permaculture, because other living organisms such as insects and birds also benefit from a greener (city)garden.

In order to use/implement the idea’s which are explained below, Tuinreconstructie van de Griend uses a lot of the principles (design, cultivation methods etc.) learnt from permaculture. With permaculture our natural surrounding is designed, this can be at your home or in the landscape where you work/live in. As with the designing of homes or buildings architecture is essential, permaculture is essential to design gardens and public green in residential areas, cities and regions. Permaculture is a science which focuses on establishing a healthy & sustainable society in balance with its environment. This can be accomplished by designing and shaping our living space in a smart way, whereby the cultivation of plants/food in a creative and useful way is considered an essential aspect.

In the core permaculture emphases on designing landscapes and garden in other words living spaces. Human and his activities are seen as part of the natural cycles. The principles of permaculture can be used in designing and carrying out the food supply, purify/store (rain)water or sustainable production and use of building materials. The result is a pleasant and enriching environment with a great biodiversity in which multiple functions are integrated.

Food supply at home

At the base of corporate social responsible living and entrepreneurship lays healthy, sustainable cultivated food. Our nutrition is the fuel of all activities that we and our children undertake daily. One of the methods to contribute to this sustainable shape of food supply is to cultivate your food in your own garden, balcony and/or window frame. An edible garden is not only beautiful, nourishing, healthy and delicious but also a wise investment.

The most important reason why producing your own food is sustainable and has less impact on the environment, is because many of the products in our supermarkets are imported. Because of this there is a lot of energy, time & contamination necessary for our cultivation, packaging, storage, transport and distribution of our food. Of course will some products remain impossible to cultivate in The Netherlands. For this reason supermarkets will keep providing us with some products/food. But by cultivating a part of your food yourself there can be substituted or saved on a part of the described food chain. So plant a couple of apple- and plumtrees for your fruit supply. Or grow walnut and hazelnut for an energetic and well conservable nutrition. Cultivate a couple of square meters of your garden for lettuce, vegetables and herbs to provide you with vitamins and minerals. Grow some potatoes, cabbage and pumpkins for a good energy supply to your body during the winter.

Next to the fact that it is nice and easy to have food growing at you home, it is also very educative & interesting for you and your children to see food grow at your home. Herewith there is created a consciousness around healthy nutrition and you will get in contact with amazing biological/natural phenomenon’s.
Don’t you have a garden or is your daily schedule so busy that you think that producing your own food doesn’t fit you? Then Tuinreconstructie van de Griend is honored to prove you the opposite. Also on top of roofs, (small) balconies en on facades/windows everything is possible. By garden vertically and selecting plants that mainly grow in height, there can be accomplished a lot on a small surface. In this way there can be grown food in a very creative, functional and pretty way. Climbing plants like raspberries, black berries, grapes, kiwis and many kinds of beans need only a few quantity of soil and grow rapidly in height. This can be done with a construction that is constructed by us or is already present (for example a façade and/or fence). When you design and decorate your direct living space in a clever way this relatively won’t cost you a lot of time and energy. The production of food will function by itself; nature will do its job.

Build-in recycling

An important aspect of gardening using the aspects of permaculture is that from what is normally “thrown away”, a part is used again within the garden. Throwing away doesn’t exist in nature. Water can be collected through the roof or garden surface for example. Following is an important question if the water goes straight from your drainpipe or pavement to the sewage system to be turned into drinking water or that it infiltrates in the soil of your garden. By planting vegetation on the roof of your shelter or wastebin closet/cover, rainwater can be stored longer and used in a useful way. In your garden rainwater can infiltrate naturally in infiltratable elements such as a lawn or a path/strip of pebbles. Next to this there are options like infiltration wells that can be neatly placed in your terrace. Every location and situation has its own specific circumstances that determine the most suitable design. Besides using rainwater consciously, vegetable, fruit and garden waste can be used for mulching or they can be composted in a worm farm or other tool for composting organic matter. Tiles, stones, plants and other elements of the old garden, can be (partly) re-used in the new garden or be processed within it.
